let us root cause your situation, you are telling us that they kept meeting near your place. is your desk near the vending machine or something? anyways if youve been that long in the company and you know the people who keep on barracading near your place you can say it jokingly that they are disturbing you. (they will get it for sure). if this doesnt work you can really politely say it to them (or at least to one of them that you are close to).

A:
Say in a very loud and demanding voice, "Please go somewhere else to do your chatting. You are disturbing my work."

Try installing an imaginary door, much like Les Nessman on the show WKRP! Does anyone remember that at all?!?!

A:
Ask them to meet elsewhere, like the water cooler :-) or put up some homemade signs that say "Shhhh....people are working around here".

A:
Play Yanni music and surround your desk with moth balls. From that point on spray people with a water bottle, just like you do to a cat. Trust me.. noone's coming near!

A:
Place tape on the floor to form a box. Hang a sign next to it that says 'no parking zone'. Passive aggressive works

A:
Well, you can't exactly climb onto your desk and shout "shut up, I'm trying to work here!" even though I have felt like doing that more than once, but you CAN try to do something similar, yet more subtle. For instance, if you're on the phone and cannot hear due to the noise, say loud enough for everyone to hear, "I'm so sorry, but I can't hear you - the office is rather loud at the moment - could you please speak up?" Trust me, the offensive person or people SHOULD get the message and either quiet down or move elsewhere.

A:
Just be honest and tell them to take it someplace else!!

A:
Slide your chair over there real quick. And say whoops I'm sorry. If passive aggressive doesn't work for you try saying "do you mind" and indicate that you are working.

A:
put a wet sign close by, act like you are ease dropping, keep butting in the conversation by talking about something else, walk in between them, anything that's annoying.

A:
Setup a laser guided missle paremeter at yor desk. And hire a few girls from American Gladiators (like...Zap or Ice) to keep watch and kick some ass. Pickles is right, farting would work too. But then nobody would hang out with you. If it was me....I'd just dump some water on the floor near my desk til it made a visible wet spot and then I'd tell everyone that some dog peed on the carpet. Nobody likes pee. Good luck.

A:
well you could always work harder and promote to a position with a office, or tell them to please keep it down, or tell the boss.

A:
I have the same problem. I don't know. I try to look over at them to see if they get the message without saying anything. Sometimes they do. I don't see why you couldn't ask them if they wouldn't mind moving their conversation away from your desk and area because it is difficult for you to concentrate on your work.

A:
Your best bet is to just politely ask them to move elsewhere, and remind them you're trying to work. I've dealt with the same thing in the past, and it pretty much always works. I've found that often the offenders don't really realize they're disturbing anyone. Sad, but true, that they're just not aware of their surroundings. The problem is they're wrapped up in their conversation and have no concept that there's any one else around. If I'm on the phone, I try to get their attention and then point at the handset at my ear and give a quick "shh" sign. I work in the most often abused area of the office, and I can tell you that this really will work.

Place a large potted plant in the general area of where they usually like to stop and chat

A:
The only way to resolve that is if these people are higher up then you in the company, ask your office manager if she can handle it because you are being distracted while your working. If these people are secretary, just kindly ask them if they can go into another section in the office because you cant concentrate.

I agree with some of the other suggestions to just mention in a diplomatic manner that it is harder to focus with the conversation nearby. If you are on the phone and they are closeby while chatting, perhaps you can just ask the caller to 'please hold' and let your coworkers know that it's difficult to hear the phone call -- and 'thanks' in a pleasant tone. I wouldn't go over their heads just yet as that may cause more angst and tension.

I have been there done that . . . they are basically treating you like wall paper. Ask to be moved into a different area or ask for a different desk (the high kind). Don't say a word to your boss they will just get really offended. More than likely they really like you and would like to include you in their conversations . . . .well, my last suggestion is to say, "Where would you guys like to do lunch." Then during lunch basically let them know that you need total concentration.
